When the figure who defined the last 30 years of sports footwear design takes on the world's most famous foam clogs, know that a revolution is about to happen. Throw your old ideas about Crocs in the trash.
Steven Smith: The Midas of footwear design
Often called the "godfather of Dad Shoes", Steven Smith is a legendary figure. For decades, he worked for the biggest names: he designed the 997 and 1500 series for New Balance, the ahead-of-its-time Reebok Instapump Fury, the iconic Nike Air Spiridon, and most recently was the chief operational mastermind behind the most outrageous designs in the Yeezy empire (including the Yeezy Foam Runner foam sculptures). His transition to the head of innovation at Crocs is the biggest transfer in the industry.

The Evolution of Crocs: From Gardener to Influencer
Crocs have come an incredible way. A brand created for sailors, over the years it has become a global meme, a symbol of "ugly" footwear for medical personnel. Brilliant marketing turned this narrative around – collaborations with Balenciaga (heeled Crocs), Salehe Bembury (Pollex Clog with fingerprint motif), and pop stars brought the powerful comfort of Croslite material to high society and Fashion Week runways.
About the project: Parametric architecture for your feet
The "Ripple" model is Smith's first fully original debut for Crocs. It departs from the classic, perforated Classic Clog silhouette. The Ripple resembles more a physical phenomenon than a shoe – the upper features a ribbed, asymmetrical, wavy structure, reminiscent of ripples spreading on water or sand dunes in the desert.
Designed using parametric 3D modeling, the silhouette has no traditional seams or glued-on heel straps. The heel strap is a fluid extension of the entire form, integrated during the injection molding process of modified, ultra-lightweight EVA foam. The shoe literally adapts to the foot's shape due to its heat.
Steven Smith has transformed Crocs into an aggressive, biomechanical sculpture that you wear on your feet. No more attaching funny Jibbitz – the era of Ripple, the asphalt devourer, is coming.
